Acting since he was fourteen, DiCaprio has achieved at age twenty the kind of success most actors strive for their entire career. In addition to earning both an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe nomination for his work in WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE, DiCaprio was voted Best Supporting Actor by the National Board of Review for WHAT'S EATING GILBERT GRAPE and THIS BOY'S LIFE, and was given the New Generation Award for both films by the Los Angeles Film Critics.
A native of Los Angeles, DiCaprio began acting in commercials and educational films and was soon working on episodic television. He was a regular, playing a homeless boy named Luke, on the popular ABC series "Growing Pains." He made his film debut in THIS BOY'S LIFE, co-starring Robert DeNiro and Ellen Barkin and appeared in Touchstone's short documentary, THE FOOT SHOOTING PARTY.
More recently, DiCaprio was seen in Sam Raimi's THE QUICK AND THE DEAD, starring Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman, and Scott Kalvert's THE BASKETBALL DIARIES, based on the life of Jim Carroll.
David Thewlis (Paul Verlaine)David Thewlis has created a unique and impressive body of work in film, theatre and television. He made his mark with his starring role in Mike Leigh's NAKED; his riveting performance as the dangerous, charming anti-hero Johnny earned him the Best Actor Awards from the Cannes Film Festival, the National Society of Film Critics, the New York Film Critics Circle, the London Film Critics Circle, and the Evening Standard British Film Awards.
Other film credits include Caroline Thompson's remake of the children's classic, BLACK BEAUTY, David Jones' THE TRIAL, Mark Peploe's AFRAID OF THE DARK, Christine Edzard's LITTLE DORRIT, Beeban Kidron's VROOM, Mike Leigh's LIFE IS SWEET and SHORT AND CURLIES, and Paul Greengrass's RESURRECTED. Thewlis has also appeared frequently on television, most notably opposite Helen Mirren in PBS's Emmy Award-winning MYSTERY! Theatre's "Prime Suspect III."
This fall Thewlis will be seen in Michael Hoffman's RESTORATION, opposite Meg Ryan, Robert Downey, Jr. and Hugh Grant. He recently completed DRAGONHEART, starring Dennis Quaid, Dina Meyer, Pete Postlewaite and Julie Christie, which will be released by Universal in summer 1996.
Thewlis also recently completed production on a short film he wrote and directed entitled HELLO, HELLO, HELLO, a quirky tale about stereotypes and misconceptions.
Romane Bohringer (Mathilde Verlaine)One of the best French actresses of her generation, Bohringer received a Cesar in l991 for her performance in the late Cyril Collard's controversial SAVAGE NIGHTS, in which she played the obsessive lover of an HIV-positive bisexual man. She has also appeared in Claude Miller's THE ACCOMPANIST, the critically-acclaimed MINA TANNENBAUM, and Yves Angelo's COLONEL CHABERT with Gerard Depardieu.
She made her film debut in 1987's KAMIKAZE, which also starred her father, the acclaimed French actor Richard Bohringer. Her theatre credits include Peter Brook's 1991 production of THE TEMPEST and Jacques Weber's 1994 staging of THE MISANTHROPE. Bohringer will next be seen in Gilles Mimouni's L'APPARTEMENT.
